Why are human hair wigs more expensive?Updated a month ago

Human hair wigs are more expensive than synthetic wigs. Human hair is expensive to buy because it is a natural resource is limited, but, keep in mind, not all human hair wigs are created equal.  Aspects that increase the cost of a human hair wig are:

  1. Remy vs Non-Remy
  2. Denier (thickness per strand of hair)
  3. Processing of the hair
  4. Dyes used to color the hair

REMY VS NON-REMY HUMAN HAIR

Remy human hair vs Non Remy human hair

Premium, Remy human hair is considered the highest quality hair because of the meticulous care taken to preserve its cuticles and keep the cuticle aligned. When the cuticle is preserved and kept aligned meaning the hair falls naturally from root to tip, it retains the same natural movement, fluidity, and silky texture as healthy, normal hair making particularly desirable. This hair also tangles less and requires less maintenance meaning the hair should air-dry smooth.

Non-Remy human hair, on the other hand, is also known as cuticle-free hair or fallen hair. It is not collected or organized in a way that keeps the cuticle aligned. As a result, the cuticle most be removed to prevent the hair from tangling. This quality of hair will not last as long as Remy hair and requires heat tools like a flat iron to make the hair soft and smooth again. The best way to think about Non-Remy hair is that it is processed or damaged hair. Non-RemyIt is often coated with silicone to give it the desired silky, smooth texture but when the silicone wears off the hair will show its true character.

At Encelia® Hair, we only sell Premium, Remy human hair - learn more about it here.

HOW DO I KNOW IF MY WIG IS REMY HAIR OR NON REMY?

The easiest way to know if your human hair wig has Remy hair or Non-Remy hair is to simply feel the hair for resistance by touching the hair with your fingers.  If you feel resistance when sliding your fingertips from bottom to top, it's likely that the hair is Remy and the cuticles are intact.

DENIER OR DIAMETER - THICKNESS OF EACH HAIR STRAND

Human hair diameter

The easiest way to understand the main difference between different kinds of human hair wigs is to know the thickness of each hair strand, known as hair denier or diameter.

There are three human hair diameters: fine, medium, or thick. In general, the thinner the hair is the more expensive it is. European hair is typically a fine denier, Asian hair is typically a thick denier and Indian hair is typically a medium denier. Keep in mind, just because you buy "European" hair it doesn't guarantee that is it high-quality. Super confusing, right?

At Encelia® Hair, we dedicated to celebrating the beauty of all human hair types. We strive to offer you all three variations of thickness. Our Premium, Remy human hair wigs, carefully selected for its medium denier. This hair type strikes a perfect balance between being not too thin that the hair breaks or split and not too thick, so the hair feel buttery soft and has the same movement and fluidity as healthy human hair.  That said, if your looking for fine hair our Luxury synthetic hair is an exact replica of European human hair, you can learn more about it here.

With Encelia® Hair, you can rest assured that you are receiving top-notch wigs that will continue to look good throughout its lifespan.

PROCESSING & DYEING | IT'S ALL ABOUT THE CUTICLE

Manufactures have different ways that the process the hair and dye it. Basically, what you need if the cuticle is fully intact (virgin, non-altered hair), partially intact or if it has been completely removed. The cuticle is what keeps the hair looking soft and silky throughout it's lifespan. In a perfect world, you would buy "virgin, altered" hair but it is hard to find and outrageously expensive. Not to mention, that because virgin hair is so expensive, many of us don't want to do anything to the hair because we want to preserve it for as long as we can. To us, these kinds of wigs are like the fine China - beautiful but not useful! At Encelia® Hair, we believe that there is a fine line between having great hair and living your life with hair. At Encelia, use premium, Remy human hair that has the cuticle partially intact. This means that our hair will continue to look silky, smooth and healthy without it's lifespan of 16-24 months, but, because this hair is less expensive you won't feel guilty when you want to use heat tools and do other things to the hair like french braids or top knots.  Basically, we want you to have great hair without the burden or guilt that is attached to the best hair in the world..

From there, you should consider the dye that is used. This will determine how quickly the hair color will change and if you can tone or color the hair down the road. You would be surprised to learn that a lot of factories use textile dyes on hair. If textile dyes are used the hair, it is almost impossible to reopen the cuticle and deposit color. At Encelia® Hair, we use triple load hair dye. This prevents the hair color from fading too quickly but it still gives you the freedom to re-color or tone your wig down the road.

That said, you are frustrated with the expense of recoloring or toning your wigs every 6 to 8 months, check out our luxury synthetic hair. It feels, moves and acts like the human hair and the color will never fade! It is a long life synthetic that curls well and is low maintenance. Total win win!!
