Lesson 5: The Dating Phase | Wig MasteryUpdated 16 days ago
So your new wig looks incredibly natural, fits well and it's super comfy but you are still feeling a bit uneasy about this whole wig thing?
This guide is for you! ❤ Even the most remarkable wig requires an adjustment period, we like to call this the "dating phase" - a time when wearing a wig just feels incredibly awkward and unnatural.
The only way to get through this phase is to wear your wig a lot. The more you wear it, and more importantly, the more experiences you have in it, the more confident you will become. With time and experience, eventually, you will feel so comfortable, and at ease in the wig that you will forget you're wearing one! And it doesn't take as long as you think! 😍
Below are some tips to help build your confidence so that wearing a wig can be as easy and seamless as putting on a pair of shoes!
- Take a moment and really get to know the interior parts of the wig - the top, nape (back), sides, and ear tabs. If you need a refresher, in the beginning part of this YouTube video, I go over the ins and outs of the wig. The more comfortable you are locating the different parts of the wig the easier wearing the wig will be.
- Every day for ten minutes, practice putting on, removing, storing, and adjusting your wig. Just like anything, practice builds routines, and routines build confidence. If you are not confident about these three things, then wearing a wig is going to be a lot harder than it needs to be so please just take this time to really get used to your new wig and the life that you will have in it.
- Wear your wig at home and just be you. Do the things that you normally do. If you wear glasses, put them on, take them off. If you are worried about your wig slipping back then test the wig at home - do yoga, go for a walk, cook, clean, wash the dog and play with your kids. The only way to build confidence is to gain experience and test the limits of the wig. Your home is a safe place, so if your wig comes off, it won't be the worst thing buy you really need to test the limits of your wig, that way when you are not home and something happens you have the confidence/experience that you need to know that your wig will do what you want it to do.
- Ok, now that you are feeling a little confident, go and wear your wig out and about. Do basic things like getting coffee or going on a date or for a walk on a windy day. The main thing, I want you to do is do things in the wig the you are scared to do -face the fears that you have about wearing a wig. Write down your biggest fears about wearing a wig and then do everything you can to see if those fears are actually real. I think you'll find that most of your concerns are not reality! It's all in your head..
- One of the biggest fears, most of us have is that our wig is going to slip off. But, I want you to know that if your wig is fitting you right, it won't come off but you're not going to know that if you don't test the limits of your wig so don't be so afraid to be you and live your best life in the wig. Your wig is a tool that should work for you and not the other way so try to play around, face your fears and try to have fun with it.
- Build new routines/rituals (weekly, am, pm) Learn more about this here. A little planning goes a long way in wig life.
