Lesson 3: How To Put On A Wig | Wig MasteryUpdated 21 days ago
We understand how overwhelming and strange it feels to put on a wig but pretty soon you won't even think about it. In this guide, we will teach you everything you need to know about your wig and how to put it on the right way.
FIRST, LETS GET FAMILIAR WITH THE WIG CAP
We have created a detailed guide, here, which explains all the details about the wig cap. When you understand the basic elements of the wig, managing the wig will be a whole lot easier!
- Lace Front - this is where your hairline will start
- Ear tabs - this is your guide to putting on and adjusting your wig
- Stays - these are the bendable metal lines that keep your wig firmly in place all day without the need for wig grips or adhesives
- Top - the top of the wig
- Back - back of the wig
- Nape - the bottom of the wig
HOW TO PUT ON YOUR WIG
If you have hair, pull your hair back and into a low pony. Then twist your hair, and hold it in place with a curved clip. Place the clip in the middle of the back of the head.
If you are new to wig-wearing, grab in dark eyeliner pen, and let's mark where we want the hairline to start. Your hairline MUST start, three or four fingers from the arch/peak of your eyebrow regardless of whether this is where your hairline naturally was or not. Mark this point with your eyeliner
- If you try to place the wig further back, meaning more than three or four fingers, the wig will NOT fit or anchor the way it should and the wig will not feel secure.
- Using your wig brush, remove any hair that has come into the cap/inside of the wig. Hair that has come into the cap will be itchy.
- Now, put the wig on your lap, the top part towards your belly.
- Flip the nape of the wig back and away from your belly so the hair in the back doesn't come into the wig cap.
- Locate the ear tabs, specifically the "stay | bendable tabs ". Bend the stays inward so they are a "C" shape - remember the stays are your anchor and keep your wig secure all day without tape or wig grips.
- Now, holding the ear tabs put on your wig and place it closer to your eyebrows. Why, because it is always easier to move a wig back than it is to move a wig forward.
- Now, adjust the ear tabs so they don't touch your ears and, then place your fingers on the end of the stay, look in the mirror and, see if the line going from across your is straight.
- Now, we need to adjust the hairline. Gentle push the ear tabs in and up. Slowly move your wig back to the mark that we made, which is three or four fingers from the arch of your eyebrow.
- Now, adjust the back. Look up to the ceiling and pull the nape down and right at the end of the curve in the back of your head.
- Then, readjust the stays to make sure your wig is on straight. And you're done! Your wig is on!
That's it, nine really easy steps which you will master in no time. If you are new to wigs, practice taking your wig on and off 20 to 30 times and I promise wearing a wig well be a whole lot easier!
Now, how do you take your wig off?
Taking a wig off is easy but doing it the way mentioned below well prevent hair from coming into the cap and won't stretch out your lace front. Simply, just grab the nape or back of the wig, pull it up and over your head. The front of the wig should sit as it started, towards your belly. Now, place her on the mannequin head.
If you are new to wigs, over the next two days, practice taking your wig on and off 20 to 30 times and I promise wearing a wig well be a whole lot easier!
