How to prevent wigs from tangling or shedding?Updated 5 months ago

First, we understand wigs are expensive, so when the hair sheds, it hurts. Below are some simple tips that will reduce tangling, shedding, prolong the lifespan, and keep your wig looking great!

WHY DOES THE HAIR TANGLE?

More than lucky your human hair wig is tangling because the hair is either dry or it has product build-up.

If you wash your wig and it is tangling a day or so later then it is time to do a deep conditioner treatment on your human hair wig. About every three to four months, we recommend doing a deep conditioner/mask treatment on your human hair wigs.

If you have a synthetic wig (luxury synthetic or heat friendly synthetic) that is tangling, please refer to this help guide.

PRODUCTS NEEDED TO DETANGLE YOUR HUMAN HAIR WIG

  1. Purchase a moisturizing mask like, Mlibon Treatment, Redken Extreme Mask
  2. Petite rubber mannequin head
  3. Wig Pins - unlike t-pins, these pins won't pull the hair when you brush your wig
  4. Wig Brush
  5. Wig Setting Brush | Teasing Brush

HOW TO DEEP CONDITION YOUR WIG

  1. Purchase a very moisturizing mask like, Mlibon Treatment, Redken Extreme Mask
  2. Wash the hair as you normally do
  3. Apply mask everywhere, even on the cap. This is the only time that you want to apply conditioner to the cap.
  4. Place wig inside a ziplock bag and close the bag so the wig is air tight.
  5. Turn on your hair dryer (medium temperature) and sweat the wig for three to four minutes.
  6. Allow the wig to sit in the ziplock bag closed overnight.
  7. In the morning, rinse the hair with cold water and do your normal wash routine.

PRODUCT BUILD UP IS ANOTHER REASON WHY YOUR HUMAN HAIR WIG MIGHT BE TANGLING

Another common reason why your wig might be tangling more is from product build up. If the wig hair feels heavy or sits flat you might have product build up. To solve for this problem, use a clarifying shampoo and then apply normal conditioner. Common reasons for build up are: not spending enough time rinse product out of the hair during your weekly wash, product you are using are to heavy for the hair, or the styling products are too heavy on the hair.
