How to keep human hair wigs silky & tangle-free?Updated 7 months ago
It is crucial to bear in mind that, unlike natural hair, human hair wigs cannot absorb the natural oils and hydration that our biological hair does. Therefore, the wig's hair dries out faster than biological hair, so we must often replenish the moisture that has been lost. Proper hair care products will help keep your human hair wig soft and silky while prolonging its lifespan.
To prolong the lifespan of your human hair wig, use color-safe products that repair moisture. Human hair wigs can be styled and washed just like your regular hair; however, keep in mind that the more you wash it and the more heat that is applied to the hair, the drier the hair will become. On average, we suggest washing & styling your wig every seven days or so.
To help ensure your human hair wig has a long and happy life, consider these three things:
- Products specifically formulated for dry and damaged hair; these products will help keep the hair moisturized.
- Products that add moisture to the hair, like argan oil.
- Sulfate-free and Color-Safe: this is crucial because products that are not sulfate-free typically have ingredients that strip the hair, which will, in turn, make the hair drier and more prone to tangling or matting.
Our curated hair care products will help your human hair wig tangle less while feeling soft and silky
- Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner - sulfate-free, color-safe, silicone-free hydrating argan shampoo and conditioner that will restore the moisture your human hair wig needs to feel soft, move naturally, and prevent breakage.
- Please be gentle with your wig: Treat it like you would a newborn baby. In general, wig hair doesn’t get “dirty,” it mostly gets dry. Although shampoo is necessary to keep the wig clean and smelling fresh, only a small amount is needed. Use cold water to keep the cuticle closed. Rinse thoroughly. Apply conditioner halfway from the base of the wig and apply it to the ends. Allow the conditioner to sit and absorb for 15-20 minutes. Rinse and gently wrap the hair in a towel and massage the hair in a downward motion. Never brush a wig when the hair is wet. Hair is 75% more elastic when it is wet so if you brush the hair, it can cause the ends to split and loosen the knots, causing hair loss.
- Argan Oil - This argan oil will moisturize and soften your human hair wig without weighing it down
- When to apply: after you wash your wig, every 2-3 days, or when the hair feels dry or easily gets tangled. Application: apply 1 to 2 drops of this oil to the ends of your wig and the nape of the wig. Brush the wig to distribute the oil evenly throughout the wig. Note: the hair in the back (nape of the wig) often gets tangled due to movement, bulky clothes, etc so don’t be afraid to add extra oil to this section of the wig. In general, keep oil and conditioner away from the wig cap or base, as it can loosen the knots, causing the hair to shed. If the nape of the wig continues to tangle, it may be the clothes you are wearing. In the winter months, I will often put my longer wigs in high ponytails or braids to reduce tangling. In the winter months, I will also often wear clothes that have a slip to them-silk is wonderful!
- Blow Dry Heat Protecting Spray - This lightweight heat spray repels water, which protects the hair against heat while speeding up the drying process, which will prevent breakage and prolong the lifespan of your human hair wig.
- In general, heat damages all hair. Now, we have worked hard to repair and restore the moisture of the hair in your wig and heat tools absorb all that moisture, and we will be right back where we started—over-dry hair. In general, try to use fewer heat tools to preserve the hair. When you use heat, spray a heat protector on the hair. This will lock the moisture into the hair and help prevent the hair from drying out.
- Olaplex 4 in 1 - This mask is ideal for human hair wigs because it is a highly concentrated 4-in-1 reparative mask that adds shine & body while providing intense moisture & smoothness.
- Once a month or two, apply a deep mask to the hair. Application: Use warm water because we want to open the cuticle. Shampoo the hair and apply the mask. Place the wig in a plastic ziplock bag and close it so the bag is airtight. Using a hair dryer, set the setting to warm and sweat the hair for two to three minutes in the bag. Then, allow the hair to cool in the bag overnight. By allowing the hair to cool in the bag, it will allow the cuticle to close. Then, in the morning, rewash the hair as you normal do.
- K18 repair - A leave-in treatment mask for human hair wigs that have been colored. This mask clinically reverses damage in four minutes. The patented peptide technology works to repair damage from bleach, color, chemical services, and heat, restoring strength, softness, smoothness, and bounce to hair.
- If you colored your wig, use this product every two to three washes. Shampoo the hair, towel dry the hair, and then apply two to three pumps into your hands and apply it to the hair. Set your alarm for four minutes. Then, brush the hair to evenly distribute the product. Allow the hair to air dry and then style the hair. Do not rinse and apply conditioner.
