Are wigs hot or uncomfortable to wear?Updated 7 months ago
If you considering wearing wigs, you're probably wondering if wigs are hot or uncomfortable to wear. It is no secret that wigs generate more heat than going au natural. In this help guide, we want to explain why wigs can be hot along with helpful tips that will quickly cool you down along with my secret tricks to making an itchy wig, comfortable.
WHY ARE WIGS SO HOT, ITCHY, AND UNCOMFORTABLE TO WEAR?
The majority of wigs today use the same cap designs, the same materials, and the same sewing techniques and methods that were used in the 1960s, if not, even earlier. I can't begin to explain to you how extremely frustrating it is to see the same wig designs today that my great-grandmother would have worn. The majority of women who wear wigs today openly express are actually miserable in wigs. Why is my wig so hot, so itchy? How do get my wig to stay on? Why does my wig look fake? I recently made this point to a group of possible investors by purchasing a vintage 1960s Christian Dior wig on Ebay (yes, Christian Dior used to make wigs) and then showing them a brand new wig for a mass-market brand in the states. The wigs were EXACTLY the same!
It's important to note that, in the 1960s, wigs were considered accessories so they were made cheap so they could be priced low, which resulted in an industry today that is full of cheap and low-quality synthetic and human hair wigs. Manufacturers and wig brands are selling the wigs of yesterday more than ever! The industry is exploding so why should they change anything? Women wear wigs because they have to, not because they want to. Most wigs today are hot, itchy, look too perfect, and fit poorly. Modern women want comfort and a more casual, imperfect, or undone look.
ENCELIA HAIR TAKES A DIFFERENT APPROACH
In a sea of subpar, low-quality wigs, Encelia Hair has taken a completely different approach to wig-making. Encelia Hair has become the first alternative hair company to take technical athletic apparel designs and incorporate it into a wig. Our patent-pending athletic designs feature a revolutionary wig cap unparalleled in the alternative hair industry, offering wearers unmatched comfort, lifelike realism, and absolute security.
DESIGNED BY A BALDIE
Encelia Hair, was founded by Allison Ombres, who developed alopecia universalis during her second pregnancy. She understands how miserable women are in wigs and wanted to design one so comfortable, secure, and realistic that the woman wearing it would forget she was wearing one. She sourced cutting-edge athletic materials not used in wigs today and pushed her factories to try to make a wig using her design. Many of them said no, but with persistence comes success. Encelia Hair has created groundbreaking wigs that stand out in their own category within the alternative hair industry.
LITTLE DETAILS THAT LED TO A TRULY GROUNDBREAKING CAP
The little details found in every Encelia wig add up to make unbelievably comfortable, secure, and natural-looking wigs. The flexible and stretchable seams allow your wig to move with you, resulting in a barely-there feel. Our cooling mesh was specifically selected to keep your head cool. Our seamless design makes this wig unbelievably comfortable-no rubbing or digging. The double-lined cap prevents hair from "inverting" or re-entering the cap, which is the why wigs are itchy. Multiple-sized caps helps keep your wig secure without needing wig grips and adhesive.
Encelia Hair innovative approach to wig design prioritizes comfort and security without sacrificing realism, and their dedication to quality is evident in every detail of their products. Whether you're wearing a wig for fashion or medical reasons, Encelia Hair is a company that understands your needs and has delivered a product that exceeds expectations.
SECRET COOLING SPOTS THAT WILL HELP YOU STAY COOL IN A WIG
Did you know pulse points are your body's “cooling spots” like built-in little air conditioners? In these areas, blood vessels are close to the skin's surface. When something cold is applied, the blood vessels constrict, reducing blood flow and providing instant relief from heat. The temporal artery is a pulse point on the head that can help cool us cool down quickly in a wig. It is located on the side of the head, just above the temples.
HOW TO COOL DOWN IN A WIG
Okay, now that you understand how the temporal artery can cool you down quickly, cut up a soft, bamboo wash cloth into 2x2 squares then wet the 2x2 pieces and then depending on how hot you are, freeze them or put them in your refrigerator to cool.
Once they are cool (20-30mins), place the washcloth inside your wig on the temporal artery. Other helpful cooling spots on the head are the nape (back of the wig) or at the top (crown) of the head. When I do this in hot, humid environments, I stay cool all day!
MY SECRETS TO MAKING AN ITCHY WIG, COMFORTABLE
If your wig is so itchy and you are miserable in you're wig, try these tips:
- FirmGrip. FirmGrip is a breathable wig grip (aka, headband worn under the wig) that will help keep your wig secure. Its foam-like, breathable material is very comfortable and acts like a cushion against the itchy sections of the wig. The best part is that it is disposable, so you can just throw it away after you use it!
- Nippies. Yep, that's right, nippies are made with medical-grade silicone, so they are skin-safe, and they gently adhere to the skin, scalp, and even hair. Cut it up and place it in the areas where the wig is itchy. For me, the temple and various seams or joints are very itchy. At the end of the day, place the cut-up pieces of nippies on the plastic mold they come with and reuse them for a couple of weeks.
- BodyGlide or Chafing balms. This is a quick, easy, on-the-go solution. Simply apply it to the itchy areas, and the balm will act like a second skin and help prevent it from rubbing against your skin.
