Are synthetic wigs toxic?Updated 21 days ago
There is renewed awareness and concern about the risks associated with plastic synthetic hair that is laced with toxic chemicals and linked to obesity, infertility and cancer. It's overwhelming and kind of scary. These are big and hard questions to ask and no one in our industry wants to talk about them.
At Encelia, we are actively seeking more sustainable non-toxic, and eco-friendly synthetic hair products with materials like natural polymers, cellulose, hemp, bamboo, or soy fibers the manufactures of these materials can not make this them in the same structure and denier as human hair so for now, our heat friendly synthetic hair is made with polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which is a type of polyester. Please keep in mind not all synthetic wigs are created equal. Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is known as a higher quality and safer option when compared to Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) fiber. Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) is a harder plastic that can release harmful chemical when heated or damaged. At Encelia, our synthetic hair is:
- PVC free
- Heavy metal free
- Lead free
- Cadmium free
- Pesticide free
